We are looking for an Associate Director to join Vista’s Value Creation Team (VCT) in the Product and Technology (P&T) Practice, which serves as a trusted advisor to portfolio company leaders in product, technology and cybersecurity. As an Associate Director focused on product leaders and product management teams across our portfolio, you will:

• Work with VCT colleagues, investment team members, and portfolio company executives on value creation initiatives that focus on product management, and may involve closely adjacent teams (i.e., Software Engineering, User Experience, QA Sales, etc.)
• Work with P&T team colleagues to define product strategy and product management best practices for the portfolio, including strategies related to developing new AI product offerings
• Work with investment teams to develop investment theses to conduct Product and Technology due diligence, and identify core value creation opportunities for new prospective investments related to product management

This role will give exposure to investment decision making, value creation and transformation and will help you gain practical experience scaling the world’s premier software/technology businesses. Former members of this team have gone on to accelerate their careers in larger leadership roles within Vista and joined companies in the Vista portfolio as CPO’s. 

The role is based in San Francisco, CA, Austin, TX, or remote locations and is available for an immediate start. We support flexible ways of working, but believe the best collaboration happens at least partly in person. Some travel required.

• Driving value creation through advisory work with our enterprise software portfolio companies, related to product and technology broadly, with a focus on the product management function
• Help develop thought leadership and best practices related to product management
• Analyze product strategy, product management processes, and broader company performance in diligence and value creation
• Partner with product and technology leaders across our portfolio to help them set and realize strategy to drive growth
• Support develop of new AI product offerings across our enterprise software portfolio, and drive adoption of AI technologies across product and engineering teams

• Passion and curiosity for technology, software and data, as well as what makes successful technology companies and investors
• 7+ years of experience in product management, ideally in enterprise software
• Experience defining and launching new software products, and experience in managing product management teams
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of time
• Strong communication and project management skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, both in individual and collaborative environments
• Ability to drive cross-functional analysis, integrating perspectives on technology, business and finance
• Ability to bring structure to large, complex questions with limited guidance
• Ability to multi-task, operate independently, and deliver on tight deadlines
• Preferred Computer Science or technology-related degree
