Position Summary

We are looking for an Associate Director to join Vista’s Value Creation Team (VCT), the operating team within Vista Equity Partners (VEP). Individuals in this role will work closely with senior VEP stakeholders and senior executive teams at our portfolio companies to identify value creation opportunities aligned to the Investment Thesis and support their execution and long-term success. They will be assigned to multiple portfolio companies and function as one of the primary liaisons to the portfolio company.

The ideal candidate will have experience that blends management consulting at a leading firm with time spent in an operating role. Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, driving results in ambiguous environments, and success operating through influence. Their previous experience will ideally involve hands-on exposure to enterprise software, AI, go-to-market, and/or product organizations.

This role is open for an immediate start and can be based in Austin, Chicago, or remote.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with portfolio company executives, deal teams and operating partners to develop and shape the value creation strategy to achieve the Investment Thesis.
  • Build trust with key stakeholders and help lead the portfolio company Executive Team through prioritizing strategic initiatives to develop the Value Creation Plan.
  • Maintain a laser focus on outcomes and driving the most critical priorities on the Value Creation Plan; demonstrate a willingness to roll up your sleeves and develop practical/pragmatic solutions and action plans; generate impact, not just recommendations.
  • Establish processes and governance to track progress of strategic initiatives to ensure they achieve desired outcomes; drive transparency and visibility into the status of all ongoing value creation activities at assigned portfolio companies.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and monitor risks to the Investment Thesis and annual plan; help address potential challenges proactively.
  • Operate as a counterpart to the portfolio company’s Director of Strategic Programs, maintaining a focus on key priorities and serving as a key connective point back to the broader Vista ecosystem.
  • Reprioritize in real time across simultaneously competing demands from multiple portfolio companies and deal teams, exercising independent judgment on sequencing with no single authority adjudicating priority
  • Help identify and support implementation of AI use cases within the portfolio company, as well as internally, and drive tracking and reporting of AI impact metrics.
  • Lead and support internal cross-funtional strategic projects for the Value Creation Team that help drive continuous impovement in Vista's best practices and improve portfolio company outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an MBA from a well-regarded program strongly preferred.
  • Approximately eight to twelve years of post-undergrad experience, including time at a leading management consulting firm; consulting background should span both strategy and operational/implementation work.
  • Experience in an operating role where you owned execution and outcomes, ideally within a software, technology, or high-growth business.
  • Extensive experience in both process and project management, with a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Genuine, hands-on interest in AI and emerging technology. Comfortable piloting and iterating on imperfect first versions rather than waiting for a fully built solution.
  • Experience with go-to-market and/or product organizations and processes, either directly or through consulting casework.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Influential leadership skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage relationships with executive audiences and senior stakeholders
  • Ability to bring structure to large, complex questions with limited guidance.
  • Ability to multi-task and operate independently.
  • Based in Austin, Chicago, or remote; should expect to spend time traveling to work onsite with portfolio companies as required.

The annualized base pay range for this role is expected to be between $170,000 - $190,000. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and the applicant’s skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other components may include an annual cash bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
